Why am I seeing this notification?Â
Microsoft Edge helps safeguard your default browser settings. You’re seeing this notification because your browser defaults were unintentionally changed by third-party software, and we have restored them.Â
Microsoft Edge helps safeguard two default browser settings:
Default search engineÂ
Your browser's default search engine used in the address bar can be modified by third-party software. When Microsoft Edge detects an unintentional change to your browser defaults, it automatically restores your default search engine settings and sends you a notification.Â
You can check your default search engine settings in Microsoft Edge:
-
Go to Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
-
Select Search and connected experiences, then select Address bar and search. In the Search engine used in the address bar, you'll see your current default search engine in the drop-down menu.
New tab page
Microsoft Edge provides you with a new tab page designed for you to start your browsing experience safely with customized and integrated information. If a third-party software modifies the new tab page web address without your consent, you may be redirected to another web page when you create new tabs. When Microsoft Edge detects an unintentional change to your new tab page, it automatically restores your new tab page to the default and sends you a notification.Â
You can open a new tab page in the following ways:
-
Select New tab at the top of the browser.
-
While in the browser, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + T.
