On the Insert tab, selectÂ
 Page Number and then choose a style and location. -
When you're done, select
 ​​​​​​​Close Header and Footer or double-click in the body of the document.
Tip: To change first page numbering, see Change numbering on the first page.Â

On the Insert tab, selectÂ
 Page Number and  Page Number from menu. -
Choose the Position and Alignment. To skip a first page number, clear Show number on first page.

Select Format to change Number format, Include chapter number, or start with a different number.

Press OK, and OK again.

On the Insert tab, selectÂ
 Page Numbers and then choose a style and location. -
Select Include Page Count to show total pages, like 3 of 16.
To change position and alignment, format numbers, or skip the first page, use the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
