Outlook is an ad-supported product for free users. For users with the Focused/Other inboxes enabled you'll see ads in your Other inbox. If you've disabled Focused Inbox in settings you'll see ads in your inbox. These ads are always clearly marked with the word "Ad" in your language.

Note: If you're seeing unwanted marketing emails in your inbox that aren't marked with "Ad" please refer to the topics on spam emails. While Outlook offers spam filtering on all accounts, we don't control what emails are sent to your email address.

These ads are provided by Microsoft and our 3rd party advertising partners in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement. If you have a Microsoft Account you can control what data Microsoft uses to show you ads under the advertising page on the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard. If you opt out of ad targeting you will not see fewer ads, but the ads may be less relevant to you.

You can avoid seeing ads across all Outlook apps and get tons of other great features by subscribing to Microsoft 365 Personal or Family. Users with a current subscription won't see ads.

If you have a Microsoft 365 Personal or Family subscription tied to your account you won't see ads in Outlook for iOS, Android, and Mac. If you believe you have a paid subscription, please make sure the email address you used to purchase that subscription has been added as an account in Outlook. You can also visit https://account.microsoft.com/services to view the status of your subscription and ensure it hasn't expired.

Your ad-free subscription benefits apply automatically for all Outlook.com accounts, including those ending in outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com, and msn.com. They also apply automatically for Gmail accounts. If you have a different 3rd party email address, we are not able to detect your subscription automatically. However, you can get your ad-free benefit using the instructions below.

  1. Log into https://account.microsoft.com using the email address where you purchased the subscription.

  2. Click on “Your Info” at the top.

  3. Next to the “Account info” header click on “Edit account info.” You may be prompted to log in again.

  4. You’ll see a list of account aliases. Click on “Add email” to add a new alias.

  5. Create a new Outlook.com email address by selecting, “Create a new email address and add it as an alias.”

Once you’ve followed the steps to create your new Outlook.com email address, you can add it as an account in Outlook. Adding this account will grant your ad-free Outlook benefit.
