You can use your Android tablet or phone, iPad or iPhone, or Windows mobile device to configure either portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) orientation for your Word documents.

Note: Not all orientation features are available on all devices.

Note: In Word for mobile devices, you can’t use a different orientation for certain pages or sections of your document. This feature is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers on devices of a certain size. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, make sure that you have the latest version of Office.

On your Android tablet or phone

If you are using an Android tablet or phone, you can change the orientation of your document while you are working on it or before you print it.

  1. Tap Layout on your tablet. If you are using an Android phone, tap the Edit icon Edit icon, tap Home, and then tap Layout.

  2. On the Layout tab, tap Orientation.

  3. Tap Portrait or Landscape.

  1. Tap File on your tablet or tap the File icon File icon on your phone.

  2. Tap Print.

  3. Under Orientation, tap Portrait or Landscape.

  4. Tap Print or tap Save to save your file as a PDF.

  5. If prompted, enter a name and location for your file, and then tap Save.

On your iPad or iPhone

If you are using an iPad or iPhone, you can change the orientation of your document while you are working on it.

  1. Tap Layout on your iPad. If you are using an iPhone, tap the Edit icon Edit icon, tap Home, and then tap Layout.

  2. On the Layout tab, tap Orientation.

You can't change the page orientation of your Word documents before printing on an iPad or iPhone.

On your Windows tablet or phone

If you are using a Windows tablet or phone, you can change the orientation of your document while you are working on it or before you print it.

  1. Tap Layout. If you are using a Windows phone, tap More More, tap Home , and then tap Layout.

  2. On the Layout tab, tap Orientation.

  2. Tap Print.

  3. Tap More Settings.

  4. Under Orientation, select Landscape or Portrait from the drop-down list.

  6. Tap Print.

  7. If prompted, enter the name and location for your file, and then tap Save.
