Changes to Samsung Gallery sync and OneDrive

Last updated: May 12, 2026

Overview

Starting September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will no longer sync directly with OneDrive.

From May 1, 2026, new users will no longer be able to link their Samsung Gallery and OneDrive accounts for photo syncing.

If you previously used Samsung Gallery to OneDrive sync feature, you will need to update your camera roll settings to continue backing up new photos and videos.

Why use OneDrive for photo backup?

With OneDrive, your photos and videos are securely stored in the cloud, accessible across devices, automatically backed up, and easy to rediscover.

What's changing in Samsung Gallery?

Samsung Gallery will no longer sync photos to OneDrive after September 30, 2026.

New photos and videos will only upload if:

  • OneDrive has permissions to access all your photos & videos.

  • Camera backup is turned on.

Who is affected by the changes?

  • Any OneDrive user on a Samsung device.

  • Anyone who has used Samsung Gallery sync to OneDrive.

What happens to my existing Samsung Gallery photos?

Your photos and videos already stored in OneDrive:

  • They remain safe and unchanged.

  • They continue to be accessible from all your devices where OneDrive is available.

  • They are not deleted or modified.

How do I keep backing up my photos to OneDrive?

To continue backing up your photos automatically:

  1. Open the OneDrive app.

  2. Tap your Account Profile in the top left of the app.

  3. Select Camera backup.

  4. Ensure the correct account is selected.

  5. Turn Camera backup on.

  6. Grant access to photos and videos if prompted.

Once enabled, new photos and videos will upload automatically. Learn more about how to Automatically save photos and videos with OneDrive.

Why does OneDrive ask for permissions?

OneDrive requires access to your photos and videos to automatically back up new content. Make sure you give OneDrive access to all your photos and videos for backup to run properly in the background.

How much storage do I have?

If you need more space, you can upgrade your storage plan: Explore OneDrive storage plans and upgrade options

Or manage your storage directly: Clean up space on your Android device with OneDrive

Manage your OneDrive settings

You can review your camera backup settings, storage usage, and permissions in the OneDrive app or through your device's OS settings.

Troubleshooting

If you don't see new photos in OneDrive, check that Camera backup is turned on, your account is correct, you have storage availability, and strong internet connectivity.
