Chart Data Editing Limitations in Excel for the Web

When editing data for a chart in Excel for the Web, you may get the following messages: 

" The range you selected is not supported for charts in the web. The data source was not changed. "

This can occur because the following complex data ranges are not supported:

• Ranges that are not from the sheet containing the chart.

• Multiple ranges where either the data for each series does not have the same number of data points or the series are arranged in a mixed combination of columns and rows.

To avoid this error, make sure these data ranges are limited to a single sheet and contain the same number of rows or columns.

Alternatively, you can open the workbook in Excel for Windows for more data editing options.

"This chart's data is too complex to be displayed."

When this appears, editing the data source will replace the current source for the chart.

To edit the original data source instead, open the file in the desktop app.
