When you see underlined text with grammar suggestions from Editor, it means that Outlook is set up to check grammar while you type. If you find the underlines distracting, you can switch this setting off, and then check grammar when you want (by pressing F7).

  1. Start a new email.

  2. With the new email open,  In Classic Outlook -  go to File > Options, and then choose Editor Options. In New Outlook -  go to Message>Editor Settings.

  3. In Classic Outlook - Go to Proofing, and then clear the Mark grammar errors as you type check box Clear the Mark grammar errors as you type check box In New Outlook - under Corrections, disable the Grammar button. ​​​​​​​

  4. Choose OK to dismiss the dialog boxes and return to your email. 

Grammar and refinements

Editor corrects grammar mistakes like verb/subject agreement and incorrect punctuation, but it can also offer advanced suggestions for refining your writing. If you want to learn how to change passive voice to active, write more concisely, or avoid clichés, Editor offers suggestions when it finds these kinds of issues in your writing.
