Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps provides you with AI-powered assistance when you’re using apps such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, or OneNote. For more information, see Get started with Copilot Pro.

Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps, as part of Copilot Pro, is covered by the Microsoft Services Agreement. For information about how Microsoft processes personal data and for what purposes, refer to the Microsoft Privacy Statement

About your Copilot interactions in Microsoft 365 apps

Copilot interactions are what you ask Copilot to help you with (called a “prompt”) and the response that Copilot provides in return. Currently Copilot doesn’t show any previous interactions you had with it from session to session. That means every time you open a Microsoft 365 app and start using Copilot, you're starting over again with Copilot.

Copilot makes use of the content in your files only when you specifically ask Copilot to perform a specific action on that specific content. For example, when you ask Copilot to help you rewrite a paragraph in a Word document or ask Copilot to generate a to-do list from your notes in OneNote.

How your privacy settings affect the availability of Copilot features

For Microsoft 365 apps, even if you’re not using Copilot, you can configure privacy settings. The following two settings for connected experiences on your Windows or Mac device affect the availability of Copilot features:

  • Turn on experiences that analyze content

  • Turn on all connected experiences

If you decide to clear the checkbox for either of these two settings, Copilot features won’t be available to you on your Windows or Mac device for the following desktop apps:

  • Excel

  • OneNote

  • PowerPoint

  • Word
