Conditional formatting in Access lets you specify different formats for a control (such as text color, background color, underline, or bold) based on the contents of the control. Find more information about adding conditional formatting to a control in the See Also section.

Copy conditional formatting from one control to another

Once you have set conditional formatting on a control, you can copy it to another control by using the following procedure:

  1. In the Navigation Pane, right-click the form or report that you want to change, and then click Layout view or Design view.

  2. Select the control that has the conditional formatting you want to copy.

  3. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click Format Painter.

  4. Click the control to which you want to copy the formatting.

  5. Save the form or report, and then on the Home tab, in the Views group, click Form View or Report View to test the formatting.

Copy conditional formatting from one control to multiple controls

To copy conditional formatting from one control to multiple controls, the procedure is similar to the one in the preceding section:

  1. In the Navigation Pane, right-click the form or report that you want to change, and then click Layout view or Design view.

  2. Select the control that has the conditional formatting you want to copy.

  3. On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, double-clickFormat Painter.

  4. Click the all the controls to which you want to copy the formatting.

  5. Click Format Painter again to end the format-painting process.

  6. Save the form or report, and then on the Home tab, in the Views group, click Form View or Report View to test the formatting.
