Customize your Teams chat interface with Chat density settings

Use your keyboard and a screen reader to customize the Microsoft Teams chat density settings for the information you want to see in your chat interface based on your preference and working style.

Follow these steps to access the Chat density settings in Teams:

  1. Open Teams app.

  2. Press Tab to navigate to Settings and more, displayed as three dots next to the Profile button. Press Enter to expand the dropdown list.

  3. Press Enter again to select Settings. This will open the Settings page.

  4. Use the Down arrow key in the Settings group until you hear, “Appearance and accessibility,” then press Enter.

  5. Navigate using Tab until you hear, "Comfy or Compact chat density, radio button selected."

  6. Use the Right and Left arrow keys to choose between Comfy or Compact.

Chat density key features

  1. Compact mode:

    • In Compact mode, chat messages are shown closely together, letting you see more messages simultaneously.

    • This mode is ideal for those who prefer a neat screen with less space.

  2. Comfy mode:

    • The Comfy mode gives more space between chat messages, creating a relaxed and easy-to-read layout.

    • This mode suits those who prefer a spacious interface, reducing eye strain, and enhancing readability.

Note: Teams Chat density settings work on all platforms based on user preferences, including desktop apps, web browsers, and mobile devices.
