In a Microsoft Lync 2010 communications software call or meeting, you can share most programs with other participants. However, there are a few programs that cannot be shared. To share content from one of these programs with other participants in the Lync 2010 conversation or meeting, you should use desktop sharing.

The programs that cannot be shared include the following:

  • Lync 2010

  • Microsoft Lync 2010 Recording Manager

  • Microsoft Lync 2010 Attendee

  • Windows Explorer

  • Sticky Notes

  • Windows Sidebar

  • Programs you are running with user privileges that are higher than the privileges for Lync 2010.

Additionally, program sharing isn’t available if you are running Lync 2010 on a remote computer that is running Windows Server 2008 (prior to Windows Server 2008 R2) or Windows Vista operating systems.

Because the viewing experience is not optimal, we recommend that you not share the Windows Media Player in skin mode. Skin refers to a customized user interface that overlays an existing user interface but does not affect its functionality. It customizes the look of a program or a website and can be associated with themes. Skin mode is one of the display modes of Windows Media Player.
