Freeze Panes locks rows, columns, or both to the top and left in a sheet. 

  1. Select the cell below the rows and to the right of the columns to freeze. 

  2. On the View tab, select  Freeze panes buttonFreeze Panes or press Alt+W+F, and choose:

    • For both rows & columns: Select  Freeze panes button Freeze Panes.

    • Just the top row: Select  Freeze top row buttonFreeze Top Row.

    • Just the first column: Select  Freeze First column buttonFreeze First Column

  1. Select the cell below the rows you want to freeze.

  2. Select the cell to the right of the columns you want to freeze.

  3. On the View tab, select  Freeze panes buttonFreeze Panes and then choose  Freeze panes button Freeze up to (where a row and column is listed).

  3. On the View tab, select  Freeze panes button Freeze Panes.
