Outlook for Microsoft 365

As part of recent updates, Microsoft has removed Great Prayer Day (celebrated on May 16th) from the Danish calendar in Outlook, in accordance with changes to Denmark’s official public holidays. This update ensures that your calendar reflects the most accurate and current list of holidays.

If you are using Classic Outlook, you may still see Great Prayer Day on your 2025 calendar. This is because holiday data in Classic Outlook is imported once and not automatically updated. Here's how you can resolve this.

How to remove Great Prayer Day from Classic Outlook

There are two options to ensure your calendar reflects the updated holiday list:

Option 1: Manually delete and reimport the holiday File

1. Navigate to the Outlook holiday file:     - For English installations:       C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\1033\outlook.hol     - For Danish installations:       C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\1030\outlook.hol

2. Delete the outlook.hol file.

3. Re-add the Denmark calendar:     - Open Outlook     - Go to FileOptionsCalendar     - Select Add Holidays     - Select Denmark, and then OK.

This will import the latest version of the Danish holidays, excluding Great Prayer Day.

Note: The [Denmark] section in the outlook.hol file only included Great Prayer Day through 2023. If you're still seeing it, you likely imported an older version.

Option 2: Install the latest version of Outlook

To ensure you always have the most up-to-date holiday data, consider updating to the latest version of Outlook. Microsoft regularly updates holiday calendars in newer builds.

How to download and install the update

Use Microsoft Update to automatically download and install the update.

If you're not sure which platform (32-bit or 64-bit) you're running, see Am I running 32-bit or 64-bit Office? Additionally, see more information abouthow to download Microsoft support files. For users using New Outlook, we would recommend viewing this change in Classic Outlook for 2025.
