How do I create a group that can be found with GroupMe Campus?

When you create a group in your college or university community, you can make it discoverable to anyone with an email address from your college/university or make the group hidden so it's by invitation only. Learn more about GroupMe Campus.

Note: GroupMe Campus is currently only available for colleges, trade schools, and universities. GroupMe Campus is independent of (and is not managed by) your college or university.

  1. Tap Discover Campus Connect button.

  2. Tap the new chat GroupMe new chat button button, then tap Start School Group.

  3. You can Set an Avatar (profile picture) for the group from your device’s images.

  4. Type in your Group name, which is required.

  5. Add an optional Group topic, then tap the checkmark.

  6. To add people to your new group, you can:

    Tip: You can select to Skip adding members if you would prefer to get your GroupMe Campus group setup first.

    • Search for contacts using their name, email address, or phone number.

    • Choose from your existing CONTACTS.

    • Choose GROUPS to use an existing group’s member list to add to yours.

    • Choose from the list of Suggested contacts.

  7. Tap the checkmark to create your group.

  8. In Advanced Settings, you can set up Who can join, Visibility, Customize group and Emoji like. Learn more about managing your group settings.

    Tip: You can select to Skip and manage these options later from the group settings.

  9. Tap the checkmark again to finish creating your group.
