When Save Contacts is enabled, newly added contacts and edits made to your contacts in Outlook will be saved to the Contacts app on your device. However, edits made directly in your device's Contacts app will not be saved to Outlook.

If you'd like to remove these saved contacts, you can toggle this switch at any time and they will be removed from your address book. Saved contacts will also be removed from iCloud if your Microsoft 365 or Exchange account is removed from Outlook.

Outlook allows you to export your contacts to the default Contacts app on Android. This allows you to easily see the name of a contact when you receive a call or text message from them, and view all of their contact information directly in the default Contacts app.

To do so, navigate to your account within Settings. There, tap on Sync Contacts.

Two-way contact export is supported for Microsoft 365, Outlook.com and hybrid modern authentication for on-premises mailboxes. Two-way support ensures that any new contacts you add or existing contacts you edit will be synced between your device and Outlook accounts.

For Legacy Exchange accounts, you can export your contacts to be saved to the device. When Save Contacts is enabled, newly added contacts and edits made to your contacts in Outlook will be saved to the Contacts app on your device. However, edits made directly in your device's Contacts app will not be saved to Outlook. Note that we do not support adding/editing contacts from Outlook for Android for on prem exchange accounts so you will need to manage your contacts from a different Outlook client.

For now, contact sync support for Gmail and iCloud is not supported.

If you'd like to remove these synced contacts, toggle the Sync Contacts setting and they will be removed from your address book.
