Select where you want the check mark or tick symbol to go.

On the Insert tab, under Symbols, select
Symbol and choose More Symbols. -
Select Wingdings, choose a symbol, like
check mark (#252), checked box (#254) , or unchecked box (#168), and select Insert. To change size, color, or other attributes, select it and use font settings on the Home tab.

To insert a static check mark symbol:

On the Insert tab, select
Advanced Symbol. -
Select the font set that has the symbol you want, such as Wingdings 2 or Symbol, choose the symbol and select Insert.

Inserting a check mark isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can, however, insert a check mark symbol in the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop.
