Place your cursor where you want to add a citation.

On the References tab, select the drop down box next to
Style. -
Choose a citation style, select
Insert Citation and then choose Add New Source. -
Enter the source details and select OK.
Inserting a citation isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can, however, insert a citation in the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.

Place your cursor where you want to add a citation.

On the References tab, select
Insert Citation.
Note: You will need to select a Bibliography style before inserting a citation under the Bibliography dropdown.
