ISSUE

When sending a meeting request, the meeting appears on attendees’ calendar but is missing from the organizers calendar.

This only occurs when the organizer’s calendar is of Type MAPI which is expected for Primary account calendars. Shared Calendars can be Type REST. To confirm the Type, right click on the Calendar folder and select Properties.

STATUS: FIXED

This issue is also published to the Service Health Dashboard as Service health - Microsoft 365 admin center

A fix was deployed on August 5, 2024, with service build 15.20.7844.00 to prevent new meetings missing from the Organizers calendar.  This fix has been confirmed, however, any meetings created prior to September 1, 2024, might still be affected and affected users can use the workaround below to fix regain control of the missing meetings.

WORKAROUND

Use this Workaround to give control of the meeting back to the Organizer.

1. Have a recipient send the Organizer the missing item as an .ICS file. If this is a recurring item, then make sure that the person sending the .ICS is sending this for the entire series.

There are two ways to do this:

  • Open the Calendar item and use FWD as ICS and send to the Organizer.

  • Open the Calendar item and use File -> Save As and attach this ICS file to a mail item and send to organizer.

2. The Organizer should save the .ICS file to their computer (where they use Outlook) to allow them to send a meeting cancellation using the .ICS.

3. Open the .ICS file in Notepad (or a similar editor) and modify the following text: METHOD:REQUEST to METHOD:PUBLISH

4. Save the modified ICS file.

5. Double click on the ICS file so it will now open in Outlook

A cancelation button will now appear that'll allow you to send the meeting cancellation.
