Go to Insert > Shape and select a shape, then click and drag to draw it on the slide.

Size and position the shape as you want.Â

With the shape selected, go to Shape Format > Shape Fill > Picture.

Select the type of picture you want, then navigate to the picture you want and insert it.

If your picture is skewed, cut off, or doesn't fill the shape the way you want, go to Picture Format, and in the Size group, click the arrow under Crop to select the Fit or Fill option:

Choose Fit if you want as much of the picture as possible to fit within the shape

Choose Fill to have the shape fit within the bounds of the picture

Use Insert > Picture to add an image to your slide.

Select the image and go to Picture Format on the ribbon, and then select the arrow next to Crop.

Point to Crop to Shape and then choose the shape you want to crop to. The shape is immediately applied.Â
Tip: If the positioning or shape size is unsatisfactory, select Crop on the ribbon and then make adjustments:

To resize the shape, drag a crop handle at any edge or corner of the shape.

To reposition the image within the shape, click and drag the picture.

Putting a picture in a shape isn't currently possible in PowerPoint for the web. You can, however, put a picture in a shape in the PowerPoint desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select
 Editing and choose Open in Desktop App. ​​​​​​​
