Select the picture, and on the Picture Format tab that appears, selectÂ
 Remove Background. -
On the Background Removal tab, selectÂ
  Mark Areas to Keep or   Mark Areas to Remove. -
Mark the areas and select
 Keep Changes.

If you have a solid color background, you can change or remove the background color.

If you'd like to remove the entire background photo, see Remove a watermark.

Removing a picture background isn't currently possible in Word for the web. You can, however, remove a picture background in the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
