Use the information in this article to troubleshoot cloud storage errors in OneNote.

Issue

While attempting to sync, OneNote may display the following error:

  • 0xE0000796

Background

This error can occur when OneNote can no longer sync your notebooks because your account is out of storage space.

Resolution

To resolve the error, verify whether your notebook is stored on OneDrive or on SharePoint, and then follow the corresponding steps below:

  • OneDrive — If your notebook is stored on OneDrive, check to see how much free space you have left for your account. If you are almost or completely out of space, consider deleting some older files that you no longer need, or purchase more OneDrive storage space to resolve the issue.

Tip: For more information about OneDrive storage, see OneDrive storage plan and billing questions.

  • SharePoint — If your notebook is stored on SharePoint, you may have exceeded the storage quota that’s been allocated to you. Please contact the SharePoint or IT administrator in your organization to resolve the issue.
