Select the File menu and select Options.

On the Customize Ribbon tab, under Choose commands from, select the drop-down and select Main Tabs.

Select Developer, select Add, and then OK.

Select the Word tab, select Preferences > View.

Under Ribbon, make sure Show developer tab is checked and close preferences.
If the Developer tab isn't there:

Go back to Preferences and select Ribbon & Toolbar.

Under Main Tabs, scroll down, select the Developer check box, and select Save.
Showing or hiding the Developer tab isn't possible in Word for the web. You can do this in the Word desktop app.

To open the desktop app, at the top of the ribbon, select Editing > Open in Desktop App.
