When you attempt to activate Office for Mac 2016 or Office for Mac 2019, you may receive an error message "Online activation did not complete successfully because the activation server is temporarily unavailable." 

To fix this issue, you'll need to delete the file UBF8T346G9.Office from your Mac.  

Delete the file from the following location:

  1. Close all of your Microsoft Office applications.

  2. Launch Finder.

  3. Select the Go menu, then select Go to Folder.

  4. Copy the following folder location, paste it into the search field, and then press Enter:~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office

  5. Control-click the file MicrosoftRegistrationDB and select Move to Trash.

  6. Before continuing, please make sure that you are connected to the internet. This is required to complete the activation process.

  7. Open a Microsoft Office app again and follow the prompts to complete the activation process.
