Unlock a file

Here are some possible causes and solutions if a file is locked and you can't edit it. 

• The file is open on other device. Make sure the file is closed on all of your devices.

• The file is checked out or opened by another person. Ask them to close the file or share it.

• The file is locked because your computer crashed. Reboot your computer.

If these solutions don't work, you can save a copy of the file and then "Save as" the original name to overwrite the original file.
