Outlook can suggest words or phrases as you compose messages.

Accept suggested text

If you’re typing and suggested text appears that you want to accept, do one of the following:

  • Press the Tab key

  • Press the Right arrow key

Ignore suggested text

If you’re typing and suggested text appears that you don’t want to accept, just keep typing what you intended to write, and the suggestion will disappear.

Select a tab option below for the version of Outlook you're using. What version of Outlook do I have?

Turn off text predictions

Note: If the steps under this New Outlook tab don't work, you may not be using new Outlook for Windows yet. Select Classic Outlook and follow those steps instead.

  1. From the top of the window, select  Settings

  2. Select Mail, then Smart suggestions.

  3. Under Text predictions, clear the Suggest words or phrases as I type check box.

  4. Select Save.

  1. While you're writing an email message, go to File, then Options.

  2. Under Compose messages, clear the Show text predictions while typing check box.

  3. Select OK to save.

  3. Under Text predictions, clear the Suggest words or phrases as I type check box.

  4. Select Save.
