Use COUNTIF to count the number of cells that meet a specific criteria.

Example 1: Count cells within A1 and A4 if they are greater than 100:
=COUNTIF(A1:A4,">100")

Example 2: Count cells within A1 and A4 if they contain Yes:
=COUNTIF(A1:A4,"Yes")

Example 3: Count cells within A1 and A4 if they contain text that begins with a Y:
=COUNTIF(A1:A4,"Y*")
