Adjust row and column size in tables when you need to fit text, make all rows or columns a uniform size, or simply make the table look how you want.

Change column and row width

To change the width, do one of the following:

  • Select the boundary of the column or row you want to move and drag it to the width or height you want.

  • Select the rows or columns and then select Layout and choose your height and width.

  • Select View > Ruler checkbox, select the cell you want, and then drag the markers on the ruler.

    Note: In Excel, select Home > Format, and then select Column Width.

Change column and row height

To change the height, do one of the following:

  • To make all rows in the table the same height, select Layout > Distribute Rows.

  • To make all the columns in the table the same height, select Layout > Distribute Columns.

    Note: In Excel, select Home > Format, and then select Row Height.

Adjust cells to fit the text with AutoFit

  • To adjust a column, select it, and then select Layout > AutoFit > AutoFit Contents.

  • To adjust a table, select it, and then select Layout > AutoFit > AutoFit Contents.
