Version history shows earlier snapshots of a file that were saved to OneDrive or SharePoint. It does not show who typed specific changes or a detailed activity log. If you’re using Word for Mac, the menu location may look different, and you may see fewer versions depending on where the file is saved. If you need to see individual edits, use Track Changes instead.

Important: Version history for Microsoft 365 apps is available only for documents saved to OneDrive, SharePoint, or with AutoSave.

  1. Select the File tab and choose Info.

  2. Select  Version history icon Version History and, in the Version History pane that appears, review previous edits and versions.
