There are several reasons a payment might fail. The following items are the most common reasons for a failed payment, and what you can to do fix them.

Important: If you are in India and your automatic payment fails, it might be due to new regulations effective October 1, 2021. Learn more about what this change means for you .

Start by selecting your payment type:

If your credit or debit card payment fails, check that you’ve entered all of these details correctly:

  • Your personal details, such as your name, billing address, or billing country. These details need to match the details your card issuer or bank has on file.

  • Your card number and Card Verification Code .

If the details are correct but your order is refused or declined, it's likely that the payment was rejected by the payment provider, not by Skype. This might be because:

  • There are insufficient funds on your card or in your bank account.

  • Your card has expired. Find out how to update your credit card details .

  • You’re purchasing from, or using a card issued in, a restricted country.

  • You’re using an anonymous proxy to access the internet.

    • As a fraud prevention method, we do not allow purchases made via an anonymous proxy or proxy-server. Try using another computer to make your purchase or contact your internet provider for further assistance.

Contact your payment provider for more information about why the payment was rejected.

It's also possible that Skype has refused your payment because:

  • You’ve used the same credit or debit card for more than two different Skype accounts.

  • You’ve reached our purchasing limits .

If you’re using a digital payment method like PayPal, Skrill, or CashU and your payment fails, there might be an issue with the funding source. If you keep a balance of funds in your account to pay with, make sure it’s enough to cover the cost of your purchase. If your account is linked to a bank account or credit card, make sure the details are up to date and sufficient funds are available to cover the purchase. Your payment may also fail as a result of PayPal or other digital wallets no longer being available in your country. Learn more .

If you’re using Skype Credit to pay for a product and your payment fails, it’s likely that you don’t have enough Skype Credit to cover the cost of the purchase. You can check your Skype Credit balance in your profile , or in your account . To make sure you don’t run out of Skype Credit in the future, we recommend that you set up Auto-recharge to automatically top up your Credit when your balance falls below a certain amount.

If your in-app Skype purchase on your iPhone or iPad fails, sign in to your Apple ID and check that the billing details and payment method in your Apple account are up to date, and that you have sufficient funds to cover the cost of the purchase. You also need to make sure to use the same currency in Skype and your Apple ID.
