If the LED light on your Surface charger is blinking, flashing, off, or on (but your Surface still isn't charging), here are some troubleshooting steps to try.
-
Clean the connections: Disconnect the charger from your Surface, unplug the power cable from the outlet in the wall, then disconnect any USB accessories. Wait 10 seconds. Then clean everything with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth, and check for any damage. After replacing any damaged cables, plug the charger back into the outlet and your Surface.
-
Check the connections: The cable that connects to your power outlet should be securely connected to the power supply brick. The cable shouldn't be loose or easy to pull out. After checking, connect your power supply to an outlet and your device.
-
Plug it in the other way: Flip the charger 180 degrees, and check to see if the LED light comes on and if your Surface starts charging again.
-
Try a different power source: Plug the charger into another outlet, surge protector, or power strip.
-
Using a Surface Dock? If your Surface device battery is empty, first charge it using the power supply that came with the device for a few minutes before trying to charge with the Surface Dock.
-
Try using another Surface power supply or USB-C PD charger: If you have another Surface power supply available, try using that to charge your Surface. If your Surface has a USB-C port, try using a USB-C PD charger instead.
