Use Surface Headphones 2+ in Microsoft Teams

Surface Headphones 2+ is a Certified for Microsoft Teams device when you use them on your Windows 11 PC. After you pair them over Bluetooth or plug in the included Microsoft Surface USB Link, press and release the power button to turn on your headphones and connect.

You can then use the touch controls and buttons on your Surface Headphones 2+ to control your Microsoft Teams meetings and calls—all while having great-sounding audio that’ll help you hear and sound your best.

Notes: 

  • To use your Surface Headphones 2+ in Microsoft Teams when connected using Bluetooth on your Windows 11 PC, you need to have the latest firmware update installed. To learn how to update your headphones, see Update Surface Headphones.

  • On a Mac, Surface Headphones 2+ is a Certified for Microsoft Teams device when you use the included Microsoft Surface USB Link.

Set up Surface Headphones 2+ in Microsoft Teams

After you pair your Surface Headphones 2+ over Bluetooth or plug Microsoft Surface USB Link into your Windows 11 PC, you can open Microsoft Teams and set up your Surface Headphones 2+ in there.

Choose Surface Headphones 2+ as your audio device

  1. Press and release the power button on your Surface Headphones 2+ to turn them on and connect.

  2. In Microsoft Teams, select Settings and More (...) to the left of your profile picture, then select Settings > Devices.

  3. Under Audio devices, do one of the following, depending on the connection you want to use:

    • Use Bluetooth: select Surface Headphones.
      After you select Surface Headphones, confirm they’re selected for the Speaker and Microphone in the Audio devices section. For Speaker, it should include (Bluetooth) in the name.

    • Use Microsoft Surface USB Link: select Microsoft Surface USB Link.
      After you select Microsoft Surface USB Link, confirm it's selected for the Speaker and Microphone in the Audio devices section.

Use Surface Headphones 2+ in Teams calls or meetings

After you open Microsoft Teams on your Windows 11 PC or Mac, here’s how to use the touch controls and buttons on your Surface Headphones 2+ during Teams calls and meetings.

Do this

Make a call

Press the Microsoft Teams button on your headphones to bring the Teams window to the front, select Calls in Teams, then select the person you want to call.

If you have any missed calls or new voicemails, you’ll go to the Calls screen in Teams.

Join a meeting

Press the Microsoft Teams button on your Surface Headphones 2+ to bring the Teams window to the front, then select Join now in Teams to join the meeting.

Answer a call

Tap the touch area on either ear twice.
If you're using Surface USB Link, the light on it flashes green when there’s an incoming Teams call.

Decline a call

Tap and hold the touch area on either ear when you get a call.

Mute yourself during a call or meeting

Tap the touch area on either ear.
If you're using Surface USB Link, the light on it will turn red.

To unmute, tap the touch area on either ear again.
If you're using Surface USB Link, the light on it will turn solid green.

Adjust the volume during a call or meeting

Turn the right dial forward to increase the volume. Turn it backward to decrease the volume.

Adjust noise cancellation during a call or meeting

Turn the left dial forward to increase noise cancellation and hear less sound around you. Turn the dial backward to decrease noise cancellation and hear more sound around you.

End a call or leave a meeting

Tap the touch area on either ear twice during a call or meeting.

What does the light on Surface USB Link mean?

If you're using Microsoft Surface USB Link, the light on it can tell you a lot. It can tell you when you have an incoming Teams call, when you’re muted, and much more.

When the light on Microsoft Surface USB Link is

It means

Off when Microsoft Surface USB Link is plugged in

Microsoft Surface USB Link is not connected to Surface Headphones 2+. Press and release the power button quickly on headphones to turn on your headphones and get connected.

Solid white

Microsoft Surface USB Link is connected to your Surface Headphones 2+ and you’re ready to use it in Teams.

The light on your Surface Headphones 2+ will also be solid white.

Flashing green

You have an incoming Teams call.

Solid green

It's connected and Surface Headphones 2+ is being used in a Teams call or meeting. You're unmuted.

Solid red

You're muted during a Teams meeting or call.

Set up Surface Headphones 2+ in Microsoft Teams

After you pair your Surface Headphones 2+ over Bluetooth or plug Microsoft Surface USB Link into your Windows 10 PC, you can open Microsoft Teams and set up your Surface Headphones 2+ in there.

Choose Surface Headphones 2+ as your audio device

  1. Press and release the power button on your Surface Headphones 2+ to turn them on and connect.

  2. In Microsoft Teams, select Settings and More (...) to the left of your profile picture, then select Settings > Devices.

Solid white

Microsoft Surface USB Link is connected to your Surface Headphones 2+ and you’re ready to use it in Teams.

The light on your Surface Headphones 2+ will also be solid white.

Flashing green

You have an incoming Teams call.
