ISSUE
Due to an error, some OneNote for Android users who previously authenticated using their phone number are unable to sync their notes. Affected users might see a message asking them to sign in:
-
"To sync this notebook, sign in to OneNote."
To confirm if you are affected by this issue, do the following:
-
Go to Settings > Accounts, and then verify that you see your phone number listed under Personal Account.
-
Update the OneNote for Android app to the latest version from the Play Store, and then restart the app.
-
If you see the same error about signing in, fully close the app by going to Settings > Applications > Application Manager > OneNote > Force Stop.
When you start OneNote for Android again, the following error will be displayed:
-
Account Error - Action Required
-
Please add your email address to your phone number to continue syncing. Without an email account, unsynced changes are stored on your device. Such notes will be lost if you uninstall OneNote or replace your device.
STATUS: WORKAROUND
Microsoft is aware of this issue and working on a fix. In the meantime, as a workaround, tap Add Email in the error message to connect a valid email address to your phone number. After you add this information, OneNote for Android will start syncing your notes again.
