INTRODUCTION

This update package upgrades test environments that are running Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 Release Candidate (RC) build 5.0.9688.32 or a later build to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 build 5.0.9688.583. This update is available for all languages that are supported by Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011.

More Information

Before you upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RC to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM, please read the following important information.

Upgrade methods

You can upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RC to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM by using one of the following methods:

  • Patch Upgrade from RC to RTM using the Patch. Your Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server will be updated to RTM. In addition:

  • If you had a Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organization imported into RC prior to the upgrade you will need to apply the SQL script listed below to the organization that was upgraded.

  • You will also need to apply the SQL Script to any Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organization that is imported or upgraded after your Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server is running RTM code.

  • Unistall and connect to existing databases Uninstall the RC version and run the RTM version setup process with the connect to existingdatabase option. In addition:

  • If you had Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organizations imported into the RC deployment prior to the un-install and re-install you will need to apply the SQL script below to those organizations.

  • Any new organizations that are imported from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 into the RTM Server will NOT need the script applied. The RTM install bits contain the fix described in this KB.

  • If you are trying to import or upgrade any organizations from RC into your RTM Server, you will need to apply the RTM Patch to your RTM Server in order to successfully upgrade your RC organization. This is documented in KB 2511317.

  • Fresh install with import and upgrade Install the RTM version on a fresh server to create a new deployment, and then import and upgrade the existing RC version organization database.

The recommended upgrade path from Microsoft Dynamics CRM RC to RTM is:

  1. Uninstall the RC.

  2. Install to existing databases using the RTM bits.

  3. Apply the RTM Patch (KB 2461082) against the RTM server. This will enable you to import RC organizations if needed. See KB 2511317. If you do not need to import RC organizations, then you will not need the patch in this scenario.

  4. After you upgrade your deployment to run with an RTM server, you may need to log into Deployment Manager and upgrade your RC organizations from 5.0.9688.xx to 5.0.9688.583. You can do this by selecting your RC organization, and then click Upgrade in the Actions pane.

  5. Run the SQL Script from KB 2461082 against any Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organizations that were upgraded to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 while the server was using RC bits.

The advantage to this method is that Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organizations imported against the RTM server won't need the SQL script applied as the fix is in the RTM install.

Upgrade notes

When you upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RC to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RTM, you must upgrade the server to the RTM version before you upgrade the clients.Clients that are running the RTM version will not function against a server that is running the RC version. Using a client that is running the RTM version against a server that is running an earlier version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 will generate errors. If you upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RC, and then you migrate the existing Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organizations to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 RC, the default contact synchronization filters may be missing. In this situation, you have two options: users can manually create contact filters, or you can run the following script against your Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 organization. To run the script, open SQL Server Management Studio, click New Query, select the organization database, paste the following script, and then click Execute. Important Before you run the script, you must back up the Microsoft Dynamics CRM databases.

delete from UserQueryBase where QueryType = 256 and ReturnedTypeCode = 2 and (FetchXml is null or LEN(FetchXml) = 0)insert into UserQueryBase(UserQueryId, Name, Description, ReturnedTypeCode, QueryType, FetchXml,ColumnSetXml, LayoutXml, OwningBusinessUnit, ModifiedBy, ModifiedOn, CreatedBy, CreatedOn,StatusCode, StateCode, OwnerId)Select NEWID(), Name, Description, 2, 256, FetchXml,ColumnSetXml, LayoutXml, OwningBusinessUnit, ModifiedBy, getutcdate(), CreatedBy, getutcdate(),StatusCode, StateCode, OwnerId from UserQueryBase where QueryType = 16 and ReturnedTypeCode = 2 and ParentQueryId is nullGo
