While it is possible to recover lost videos in the Clipchamp video editor in some cases, it's unfortunately not possible in others.
In Clipchamp's personal version,
-
Consider enabling content backup in editing projects to automatically back up media files in the cloud, if this feature is part of your plan. This is the most convenient option to avoid losing media files and ensures Clipchamp can load them into editing projects consistently.
-
Alternatively, make sure to keep backup copies of your original media files on your computer, an external drive or online storage.
This is useful if you get asked to locate files in Clipchamp. See "Why do I need to locate my files" for situations where this can be required.
In Clipchamp's work and school version,
-
Videos and other media files you use in editing projects get saved automatically in the project's Assets folder in your OneDrive. As long as you keep the contents of this folder, you can retrieve videos from there.
-
To recover videos you had exported from an editing project previously, they are stored in the project's Exports folder on OneDrive. If the MP4 file you're looking for is not in there anymore, you might have export the Clipchamp project again.

Ways to recover media files
If you deleted the original media files, check if they're still available in your operating system's recycle bin and if possible, recover them from there.
If you recorded webcam videos or screen recordings in Clipchamp's personal and work/school versions, when you click the Save and edit button in the recorder, the clip gets added to your editing project's timeline. In addition, the original recording file (WebM) also gets saved to your computer's Downloads folder or the folder you set as default for downloads in your browser settings. Make sure to keep these original recording WebM files as a backup so you can make use of them if required.
For videos and images that you originally took on your phone, check if they are still available on that device, possibly in the camera roll's Recently Deleted folder.
Unfortunately for other cases, recovering of media files won't be possible if you're using Clipchamp without Content Backup enabled and have deleted or lost the original files from your computer.
