By default, this compatibility update is offered when you install the latest version of Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. No interaction is required to apply this update.

This compatibility update may trigger several actions when you upgrade to the latest version of Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. The following are the most common actions that may occur:

  • Upgrade blockPuts an upgrade block on an application that may cause the upgrade to fail. Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 may put an upgrade block on a third-party application only if the manufacturer is notified. User has to uninstall to continue with the upgrade.

  • Reinstall after upgradeThe user can continue to upgrade. However, the application or driver works if a user reinstalls after the upgrade.
