Symptoms
Assume that you have File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) installed on a Windows Server 2012-based computer. When you try to recover some files from a backup file by using Windows Server Backup on the computer, the files are not recovered. Additionally, the following event is logged every 10 seconds during the recovery process:
Cause
This issue occurs because FSRM periodically tries to access a volume that is marked as "read-only" by Windows Server Backup.
During the recovery process, Windows Server Backup mounts the Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) file that contains the backup as a read-only volume. Additionally, FSRM checks for new volumes on the system every 10 seconds. When FSRM finds the read-only volume and then tries to open and write to it, the operation is not successful. Therefore, event ID 8249 is logged every 10 seconds.Resolution
