ISSUE

You may experience an issue with some apps, such as Microsoft Excel, that occurs when using the Microsoft Input Method Editor (IME) for Chinese and Japanese languages. You might receive an error, or the app might stop responding or close when you attempt to drag using the mouse.

STATUS: WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, please do the following steps:

  1. Select Start, type "Settings", and select Enter.

  2. Type "IME" into the search box within Settings and select Edit Language and Keyboard Settings.

  3. Choose your preferred input language and go to the options for that language.

  4. Go to the IME settings that are appropriate to your language. The following previous versions of IME are available:

    1. Microsoft Japanese IME

    2. Simplified Chinese Microsoft Pinyin IME

    3. Simplified Chinese Microsoft Wubi IME

    4. Traditional Chinese Microsoft Bopomofo IME

    5. Traditional Chinese Microsoft ChangJie IME

    6. Traditional Chinese Microsoft Quick IME

  5. Select General.

  6. In the Compatibility section, turn on Use previous version of Microsoft IME.

Note: We do not recommend using the compatibility setting for the long term, but rather as a temporary workaround for users who are impacted by this issue.
