Introduction

This article describes a problem in which a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device cannot reconnect to a server message block (SMB) share after you send a TCP reset (RST) command. An update is available to resolve this problem. Before you install this update, all previously issued updates for this product must be installed.

Symptoms

After you send a TCP RST command from a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device, the device cannot reconnect to an SMB share.

Cause

This problem occurs because of the post-wait time-out value when the NetBIOS session is closed. When you reconnect the network cable at the SMB server end, and then you try to reconnect to the SMB share, the device tries to communicate directly with the SMB Service. Because the logical connection (NetBIOS session) isn't established, the communication fails.

Software update information

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows Embedded Compact 7 Monthly Update (September 2017).
