Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have a Windows Embedded Compact 7-based device that has four wave audio device drivers installed.

  • You have an application that has already loaded three of the wave audio device drivers.

  • The application loads the fourth wave audio device driver and then unloads it.

  • The application calls any of the following waveform audio functions:

    • waveInGetDevCaps

    • waveInGetProperty

    • waveInMessage

    • waveInOpen

    • waveInSetProperty

In this scenario, an "Access Violation" exception may occur.

Cause

This problem occurs because of an issue in the waveform audio functions that causes the system to visit a NULL reference object when the function is called.
