Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You use the Indexing Service on a computer that is running a 32-bit version of one of the following operating systems:

    • Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 (SP2)

    • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)

    • Windows Server 2003

Note In this article, this computer is called an Index Server.

  • You create a new catalog and then add directories to the catalog.

  • On another computer, you use a 64-bit version of Microsoft SQL Server.

  • In SQL Server, you create a linked server to the Index Server by using the Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Indexing Service provider.

  • You execute a query against the linked server.

In this scenario, the query returns the following error message.

Row handle is invalid.

Note This issue typically occurs when the returned recordset is very large.
