Segoe UI is a version of Microsoft's branding typeface Segoe that is designed specifically for use on screen. Segoe UI is especially clear and readable for information that will be presented primarily on the screen of a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. It can also be used effectively in print. Segoe UI is a clear, readable sans serif typeface with an open, neutral look; it works well both in headlines and in short passages of text. It is especially appropriate for labels, captions, signs, and subtitles.
Segoe was designed by type designer Steve Matteson to be a friendly, readable sans serif typeface for all corporate applications. It became Microsoft's default user interface font with the release of Windows Vista in 2007, however it was not added to Office for use on non-Windows devices until 2022.
Segoe UI supports a very wide range of languages and scripts, including the Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic alphabets, Arabic, Hebrew, Armenian, Georgian, Vietnamese, Lisu, and Volapuk, as well as digits (number symbols) for most writing systems.
