This issue occurs when you have 30-40 tabbed conversation windows open in Microsoft Lync 2013. When this issue occurs, a new tab does not open. Instead, a previously opened tab with an unexpected contact takes focus.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, install the February 10, 2015 update for Lync 2013.
