Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008 R2) on a computer.

  • You install one of the following versions of SQL Server 2008 R2:

    • Cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2008 R2

    • Cumulative update package 6 for SQL Server 2008 R2

  • You install Microsoft Team Foundation Server 2010 (TFS 2010) and connect to a SSAS 2008 R2 instance.

In this scenario, SSAS 2008 R2 might crash.Notes

  • This issue occurs even while TFS processes no user requests and no data operations on the same computer.

  • This issue occurs whether you install TFS and SSAS 2008 R2 on the same computer or not.
