Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or Microsoft SQL Server 2012 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2012 fix release.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • The log shipping backup job is running on an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 or an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2012.

  • The instance fails over before the log shipping backup job finishes. Therefore, a corrupted transaction log backup is generated.

  • The log shipping restore job is run.

In this scenario, the log shipping restore job restores the corrupted transaction log backup to a secondary database.

Resolution

After you apply this fix, a consistency check is added to prevent corrupted transaction log backups from being restored to a secondary database.
