Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You are using Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or SQL Server 2014 on a multi-core host.

  • You keep the <gcServer enabled="true" /> default settings in the Dtexec.exe.config configuration file.

  • You run the SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package that contains managed or custom tasks.

In this scenario, garbage collection is run in the default workstation mode, and the process takes a long time.

Cause

The issue occurs because the configuration is ignored if CLR is implicitly activated in the Dtexec.exe process. The garbage collector mode is the default workstation mode.
