Symptoms
Consider the following scenario:
-
You are using Microsoft Azure cloud service.
-
You create two VM nodes by using the same Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 galley image.
-
You run the following query in SQL Server on each VM node:select name, key_guid from sys.symmetric_keys where name = '##MS_ServiceMasterKey##'
In this scenario, the query returns the same key_guid value that represents Service Master Key, which is expected to be unique for each VM node.
