Symptoms
Assume that you connect to Microsoft Azure SQL Database version 12 by using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2014. When you enable the Change Tracking option for Azure SQL Database through the Database Properties dialog box, you may receive an error message.For example, if you change the value of the Change Tracking option to True in the Database Properties dialog box of Azure SQL Database, and then you click OK, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Alter failed for Database 'Database Name'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)Additional information:An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch.(Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)VIEW DATABASE STATE permission denied in database 'master'.The user does not have permission to perform this action. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 262)
Resolution
This problem was first fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:
Each new cumulative update for SQL Server contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous cumulative update. See the latest cumulative updates for SQL Server:
