Applies ToSQL Server Management Studio

Summary

This version of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) works with all supported versions of SQL Server 2008 through SQL Server 2017. It provides the greatest level of support for the latest cloud features in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Data Warehouse.

Improvements included in this update

This update includes the following improvements:

Replication Monitor

  • Replication monitor now supports registering a listener for scenarios where the publisher database or distributor database is part of an Availability Group. You can now monitor replication environments where the publisher database or distribution database is part of an Always On Availability Group.

Azure SQL Data Warehouse

  • Adds “Rejected Row Location” support for external tables in Azure SQL Data Warehouse.

Integration Services (IS)

  • Adds a scheduling feature for SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages that are deployed to an Azure SQL database. Unlike SQL Server on-premises and SQL Database Managed Instance (Preview), which have SQL Server Agent as a first-class job scheduler, SQL Database does not have a built-in scheduler. This new SSMS feature provides a familiar user interface (UI) that resembles SQL Server Agent for scheduling packages that are deployed to a SQL Server database. If you use SQL Server database to host the SSIS catalog database (SSISDB), you can use this SSMS feature to generate the Data Factory pipelines, activities, and triggers that are required to schedule SSIS packages. You can then edit and extend these objects in Data Factory. For more information, see Schedule SSIS package execution on Azure SQL Database with SSMS. To learn more about Azure Data Factory pipelines, activities, and triggers, see Pipelines and activities in Azure Data Factory and Pipeline execution and triggers in Azure Data Factory.

  • Adds support for SSIS package scheduling in SQL Server Agent in a SQL Server Managed instance. You can now  create SQL Server Agent jobs to execute SSIS packages on the managed instance.

Fixes included in this update

The following fixes are included in this update:

Maintenance Plan

Always On

  • Fixed an issue in which Always On Latency Dashboard was not working with SQL Server 2012.

Scripting

  • Fixed an issue in which scripting a stored procedure against Azure SQL Data Warehouse was not working for non-administrator users.

  • Fixed an issue in which scripting a database against an Azure SQL Database was not scripting the SCOPED CONFIGURATION properties.

Telemetry

  • Fixed an issue in which SSMS crashed when you try to connect to a server after opting out of sending telemetry.

Azure SQL Database

  • Fixed an issue in which the user cannot set or change the compatibility level in the drop-down list to a specific level. By default, the compatibility level is set to blank.

Note To set the compatibility level to 150, the user still must use the Script button and manually edit the script.

SQL Server Management Objects (SMO)

  • Exposes the Error Log Size settings in SMO. For detailed information, see Set the Maximum Size of the SQL Server Error Logs.

  • Fixed linefeed scripting in SMO on Linux.

  • Miscellaneous performance improvements when the system is retrieving rarely used properties.

IntelliSense

  • Performance improvements to reduce the volume of IntelliSense queries for column data. This is especially helpful when you work on tables that have many columns.

SSMS user settings

  • Fixed an issue in which the options page was not resizing correctly.

Miscellaneous

  • Improved text display on the Statistics details page.

Integration Services (IS)

  • Better support for an Azure SQL Server Database Managed Instance.

  • Fixed an issue in which users were unable to create a catalog for SQL Server 2014 and earlier versions.

  • Fixed two issues with reports:

    • Removed the computer name for Azure servers.

    • Improved handling of localized object names.

Known issues

Some dialog boxes display an invalid edition error when you work with new General Purpose or Business Critical Azure SQL Server Database editions.
