KB4514829 - FIX: Intermittent failures when you back up to Azure storage from SQL Server 2017

Symptoms

When you use the URL option to back up your Microsoft SQL Server databases to Azure Page Blobs, the backup operations intermittently fail. In addition, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:

Command: BACKUP LOG [EASTBAYRETINA] TO URL = N'FileName' WITH CHECKSUM, NO_COMPRESSION, CREDENTIAL = N'CredentialName'

Msg 3271, Level 16, State 1, Server ServerName, Line LineNumber

A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "UrlPath" Backup to URL received an exception from the remote endpoint. Exception Message: The remote server returned an error: (409) Conflict..

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Server ServerName, Line LineNumber

BACKUP LOG is terminating abnormally.

Outcome: Failed

Date and time: DateTime


Status

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
