When running R or Python scripts with rx functions in parallel mode with RevoScaleR/revoscalepy packages in Linux SQL Server 2019, you notice that the mpi logic may be triggered. It requires you to access the path /opt/microsoft-openmpi-3.0.0_* to start mpiexec, but by default the path is not in the allowed list. Therefore, the R or Python scripts may fail to run the rx functions.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This issue is fixed in the following cumulative update for SQL Server:

To work around the issue, you canĀ edit /var/opt/mssql/mssql.conf as follows to allow accessing the path:

datadirectories = /opt/microsoft-openmpi-3.0.0-x86_64:/opt/microsoft-openmpi-3.0.0-amd64
